Friday 31st July 2009: £250 Raised For A Bore in Kanagi
Last Friday's Healing Night raised £250 for charity, Helping Hands for Underprivileged!!!
This money is being used to build a bore well in Kanagi, a village in India where 300 families haven't had access to fresh water for the past 3 years, ...having to walk for hours each morning to carry buckets back. They will be extremely grateful!! Thanks to all those who came, Healers, Healees & Gilly on the piano! :-)
North London Collegiate School raise £1139! for hh4u - and meet Prince Charles!
8 pupils from North London Collegiate School managed to raise £1,139 towards Helping Hands for Underprivileged. Following the fundraising, a cheque was given to Savitri Sriharan, chairperson and founder of Helping Hands for Underprivileged. "This is amazing what these pupils have accomplished. This is such an important event. As well as the money being raised, these schoolchildren have helped raised awareness of the standards of living of children their own age half way across the world.", said Mrs. Sriharan. The sum will be transferred towards helping the children in Ramasamudram get access to more books, stationary and clothes to boost their educational environment.
One of the highlights of the whole event was the surprise mention to Prince Charles, who was due to visit the school anyway. Prince Charles was said to be very interested in the whole affair and congratulated the children on raising such a large sum of money through their own hard work, innovation and determination.
Of course, the main focus of this whole event is the children in Ramasamudram. What this event has allowed for the children to take a few more steps away from poverty and child labour. Details of the event were passed to the children, who were very surprised, grateful and above all curious about the teenagers half-way across the world who were helping them escape a life of suffering and hardship.
If you would like to organise a sponsored event or sale on behalf of Helping Hands for Underprivileged at your school, please do not hesitate! You could be making a profound difference across the world.
